Programs

Makeover + Wellness + Life Skill Development = Life-Makeover

A life-makeover is an opportunity for participants to access the 3 streams of programming to build self-esteem & change their lives. 4 nights each week, we offer wellness, life skills development and makeovers for our participants. The “beauty nights” take place at shelters, health care facilities, drop in centres, and transition homes. In 2012, we served 200 impoverished women each week. Since 2000, we have given 26, 000 makeovers. This would not be possible without the help of our supporters, volunteers and community partners. Together we work to improve the lives of impoverished women.

In 2010, Vancouver Foundation created a video of our cause in action.

Some of our services offered to our participants include:

Wellness: foot care, relaxation massage, reiki, homeopathy, acupuncture and SMART (Self Management and Recovery Therapy), fitness and yoga classes. Additional wellness workshops held in conjunction with our community partners include Heart Care Clinics, Pap Awareness Nights, TB Testing, and Diabetes 2 Awareness Nights.

Life Skills Development: Stress Management workshops, Goal Setting, Vision Boarding, Education, and more.

Makeovers: Hair cuts, Skin cleansing, brow shaping, manicures, pedicures, and makeup application.

Participants come in, are accepted as who they are today, make friends, learn new skills and connect to services and opportunities to become leaders in their own community. Since 2007, 20% of Monday night volunteers are previous participants. Most have moved onto other organizations for employment and volunteer opportunities
