Volunteer Information

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Beauty Night!  Beauty Night Society has been running since the year 2000 thanks to the generous donations of products and materials, the support from individual donors, and the time and energy of our invaluable volunteers.  Thanks to over 500 volunteers we have given  50,000 life-makeovers over the past 14years.

Beauty Night offers a vast array of services that are divided into three streams of programming:

Makeovers (hair, makeup, manicures, relaxation massage)

Wellness (foot care, walk/run clinic/womyn gym)

Life Skills (literacy, goal setting, mentorship opportunities)

When these are combined together, they create opportunities for our participants to build self-esteem and change their lives.

If you are interested in working on the front lines, on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:00-8:00pm we are located at the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (302 Columbia St.).  Here we offer the following services and programs: haircuts, manicures, foot care, massages, facials, makeup, arts and crafts, walk/run clinic, yoga, reiki, acupuncture, childminding, karaoke, and photography.  On Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:00pm, we are located at various shelters in the lower mainland.  There we offer haircuts, manicures, pedicures, massages, and facials.  We greatly appreciate any amount of time you can commit to Beauty Night, whether it is volunteering on a weekly, biweekly, monthly or ‘dropping by whenever you can’ basis.

In addition to our regular programming, we welcome your ideas for other activities and services that we can offer our participants.  The only requirement is that everything stays fun!  For example, in the past we have had volunteers holding stations and workshops for creative writing, arts and crafts, drama activities, karaoke, and baking.

Please note:  Professional experience is required in order to provide the haircutting and makeup services.  A criminal record check is required for childminding.  A teaching certificate is required in order to teach our participants yoga.  For all other positions, no experience is required; training will be provided.

If you are interested in working behind the scenes, we have several opportunities for volunteers to help with fundraising and raising awareness.  Some of these opportunities include participating in our annual stocking drive (collecting donations, sewing and decorating the stockings), organizing fundraisers, writing grants, raising awareness through social media, and doing school presentations.

Becoming a volunteer:

1. Fill out the online application form.

2. Come to a volunteer orientation: orientations are held on the first Tuesday of every month, 5:00-7:30pm at the Vancouver Public Library Firehall Branch, 1455 West 10th Avenue. All volunteers must attend an orientation before they can start volunteering.

3. If you are volunteering on the front lines, you will be trained in the specific service at your first shift.  If you are not volunteering on the front lines, we will set up an individual meeting with you after the volunteer orientation to discuss how you can best contribute to Beauty Night.
