Beauty Night AGM on Wednesday, June 20th
A chance to meet celebrate what we have achieved this year and join the on going conversation about our plans for next year! Details for AGM will be finalized by week.

Call For Board Members:
Beauty Night is looking for volunteers who wish to run for a seat on our board.

Preference is for:

• People who are active volunteers
• Board Experience
• Completed Board Chair Academy or Board training program at Vantage Point – in other words familiar with putting Mission Based Management into practice.
• Understand our cause

Requirements:

• 20 -25 hours a month
• 12 board meetings
• Serving on 1 committee
• coming to our annual planning session
• 2 year term (can be voted in for 3 terms, 6 years)

Vancouver, B.C. – April 16, 2012 – Connect Health, an integrative medicine clinic that combines conventional medicine and complementary approaches, is hosting a fundraiser to help bring awareness to women and youth living in poverty. On Monday, April 30, 2012 all the practitioners will donate 100 percent of the proceeds of their services to Beauty Night Society. Beauty Night is a non-profit society that provides makeovers, life skills programming, and wellness services to marginalized women.

Beauty Night is the brainchild of Caroline MacGillivray, who began the organization after an experience she had volunteering at a women’s shelter. Since 2000, Beauty Night has given over 16,000 life-makeovers thanks to 500 volunteers.  “We believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Regardless of socio-economic status, no one deserves to be invisible and isolated from community. We are thrilled to be the charity of choice for Connect Health’s wellness day. The monies raised will allow us to continue to meet the growing need of women and youth living in poverty,” noted Caroline.  Dr. Melissa Carr, a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor who works at Connect Health, has been looking forward to collaborating with Caroline. Dr. Carr stated, “Caroline is extremely dedicated to this project and our clinic is very pleased to be a part of such an important cause.”

Services being donated for the event include acupuncture, biopuncture, MD integrative consultations, nutrition consultations, counseling sessions, mind-body therapy sessions, fitness assessments, and more. Several local businesses have also donated prizes for attendees.

This morning one of my friends, Cyndi Cassidy sent me a video that inspired me to revisit how I see fund raising and helping grow a cause.

After watching the video, it made me wonder how I can continue to grow the cause. There are so many ways we can inspire people to take action in the community. How are you an ambassador for a cause? Would love to know how to inspire others to continue building community and raising the resources to achieve our mission. Suggestions?

It was an incredible experience to be part of. The sheer excitement that pulsed through the air heightened the night. The creativity from each salon was truly spectacular. For Beauty Night, it was wonderful to reconnect with people in the industry that have helped us get to where we are today. It was an honour and inspiration to see each salon have the opportunity to shine on stage. We were honoured to be the charity of choice for Showoff 2012. They raised over $6000 for our cause.

On Thursday morning, Dawn Chubei was at Toni & Guy in Downtown Vancouver for a BT Vancouver segment. We got a glimpse of the gorgeous hair pieces, the amount of work and creativity that will be seen at Show Off on Monday night. At Beauty Night, we’ve been lucky to see the work of Toni & Guy before. For their 10 year anniversary, they produced a hair show and raised $3000 for our cause. It was wonderful to reconnect with them. On BT Vancouver, we got to see our first peak at one of the videos the Beauty Council created for Show Off.

A few weeks ago, we were at Ego Aveda on South Granville. For the video, the Beauty Council created, Ego Aveda did a makeover on one of our volunteers. Kim has been volunteering for our cause for almost a year. We were absolutely delighted that Kim’s makeover is featured in the video.

Ego Aveda will be styling Kim’s hair for the show. We are thrilled that Kim is being able to be taken care of as she always takes care of everyone else.

Thank you to the Beauty Council for producing Show Off and to all the salons who are participating in it. Can not wait for the show!!!

As an organisation, InStyle is committed to giving back to the community that has contributed to their success. InStyle Catering owner Tanya Tennant adds, ” a part of  our growth is to reflect on our community and find ways to contribute to causes that really make a difference in the lives of individuals who are often overlooked in society”.
